MindTouch has been an open source company since the first release of our software on July 25, 2006 at the OSCON conference in Portland when we launched MDC, which at that time was named OpenGarden. We released our source code to the public and launched our developer community well before we ever began selling our first product. At MindTouch, the principles of open souce permeate every aspect of our product and corporate culture. This is evidenced in our product by the development process, our adherence to open standards, platform independence, technology agnosticism and with our licenses of choice GPL v2 and LGPL v2. In our corporate culture this is evidenced by the free conferences we host, the openness with which we share information about the company and the dynamic and egalitarian atmosphere in which we work.
MindTouch engineers actively contribute to many open source projects either by filing bug reports, assisting with documentation or by submitting code patches. Engineers at MindTouch actively contribute code to, or have become primary maintainers of the following projects:
If you're interested in participating in the development of MindTouch Deki or Dream you can find more information about code contributions, bug reporting, and more at the MindTouch Developer Center (MDC). Whenever we receive contribtions to MindTouch products from outside developers MindTouch rewards the contributor with a small donation in their name to the Electronic Frontier Foundation or another charity of their choosing.
At MindTouch we invest the vast majority of our resources into developing the world's greatest open source collaboration platform: MindTouch Deki. We think this is a better approach than investing most of our resources into advertising, marketing, and PR and then passing these costs off to our users. Instead we ask our users to help us spread the word about our great product. There are many ways you can get involved with very little effort.
Blog about MindTouch. Blogging is a great way to help us get the word out. Often, we'll even link back and comment on the post from the MindTouch blog. Alternatively, you can follow MindTouch on Twitter, be sure to tweet at us and to spread the word about MindTouch in the tweet-o-sphere.
Tell your friends, family, and colleagues about the world's best wiki: MindTouch Deki. Put your dog in a MindTouch tshirt and parade her about town. Organize a MindTouch Deki meetup or local event.
