MindTouch Deki shared hosted service...errr...finally?

For over a year now you've been telling us that you want an updated hosted option. We heard you and we really are still...going...to deliver it. We had hoped to launch MindTouch http://wik.is November 8. Thanks to some new large customers, which we're very thankful for, and the enormity of the upgrade task we're running behind. Sorry. You are likely aware of the fact that MindTouch Wik.is has been running a much older version of MindTouch Deki that has a limited feature set and no capability to make mashups. When registration opens on the new shared hosted version of this software it will be full featured and mashup ready. If you're an existing www.Wik.is user this means you already have access to hundreds of new features and you now have even more reasons to "Go Pro!" Stay tuned at www.MindTouch.com and http://wik.is for more information about the upcoming launch. We're working as hard as we can to get this out to you all. 

New: Microsoft Outlook Connector (alpha)

You've been asking for it, sometimes shrilly begging, well here's more evidence of how MindTouch listens to and cherishes the community. The Microsoft Outlook Connector (0.9 alpha) is now available for download. We're releasing this, as usual, under GPL v2. This is an alpha release, but it's pretty stable. Here are the known issues that the Connector fails on:

• Emails with over 255 character subjects
• Emails that contain Asian characters
• Emails with Microsoft Word Objects currently aren't supported, i.e.- Microsoft Word Art

These bugs will be squashed in future releases, enjoy the free software!

If you encounter other emails that fail please send the emails as an attachment to  bugs@MindTouch.com.

Update: Desktop Connector (new beta release)

We previously released the MindTouch Deki Windows Desktop Connector back in August. This is the desktop tool that allows you to drag-and-drop files to MindTouch Deki. We've since made many updates to this. In addition to some bug fixes you can now re-organize MindTouch Deki pages with drag-and-drop ease and create new pages. This tool can be especially useful while you're laying out an initial site structure, re-organizing a stale taxonomy, or when you have a lot of files to attach. I encourage you all to download and install the latest version of this Connector. We've released this too under GPL v2 and yes, it is free.

Another milestone

Thanks to your efforts MindTouch Deki is now enjoying an average of 1,000 downloads a day. A month ago it was just breaking 700 a day. Since we last announced 100,000 installs a few months ago we've seen another 50,000 downloads. We'll keep engineering the best software we can, you keep spreading the word. With your help we can continue to invest our resources in developing great software rather than diluting our resources in marketing and advertising.
